PE7-Garageband/podcast

You can produce many things in garageband.  I have been working with garageband for my PE assignments and I have learned a lot.  This assignment I used the podcast feature.  I was a radio announcer.  It was really fun.  Garageband has many musical components but working with this I notice it can be used for many things.  The music classes will benefit from this as well as students that are interested in broadcasting, filmmaking, radio and many other careers can benefit by using garageband. Students in other class can benefit as well because they can present their presentations through garageband.  The can import movies or they may want to use the podcast for their presentation.  They can be creative and add music and other effects to it.

PE6-Keynote/Garage band

I imported my keynote presentation and made it a movie in garageband.  You can import from various places.  You can combine garageband with imovie.  You can use iphoto, youtube etc.  Garageband is a useful tool.  Originally, I thought it was for musicians but it can be used by anyone.  The tutorials in lynda.com have been great as well.  I added music to the movie.  It turned out great.

This video shows good teaching practice, the use of technology, and social networking.  All of these are needed to help keep the students motivated and engaged.  Technology is rapidly changing.  It is changing as I type this so it is important to continue your professional development.

BP2 Twiducate

Twiducate will be a good social network for schools.  Twiducate can be used to post assignments, send newsletters and keep the parents, students and teacher connected.  Teacher can manage their students activities on the site.  Teachers can post assignments and give feedback on the assignments.  If there are events at school you can embed videos and share it with your class community.  You can also post pictures of events and field trips.  If you have a link that will assist students with their learning you can post the link on twiducate.  Twiducate can be used for most ages.  Although I think the younger students like first grades will not necessarily use it as a social network but with their parents help they can log on to look at pictures, videos, view links that are posted etc.  The parents of the age group will probably find it more beneficial for them.  This will also provide faster feedback if parents or students have questions.  Twiducate is not difficult to use and I think it could be a useful tool for teachers.

BP8-Arcademic Skill Builders

http://www.arcademicskillbuilders.com/.

If you teach grades 1 or 2 this will be a great website to use to enhance addition and subtraction skills.  This will help with their mental math skills.  There are a number of interactive games that the students can play.  They are Jetski Addition, Island Chase Subtraction, Kitten Match, Alien Addition, Minus Mission and Tug Team Addition.  These games will also improve hand eye coordination.  The students will be engaged because they have to keep their eyes on the screen in order to get the right answer.  It is interactive therefore they have to either use the mouse or the space bar to catch the correct answer.  I played all of the games and it was really fun.  The students will not only enjoy this exercise but they will be motivated to continue to practice.  You can make it a competition if you like.  You can select single player or multiplayer.  For those of you that teach higher grades you can also use this site.  There are activities for multiplication and division, integers, fractions and rations, language arts and geography.  This site offers a wide range of activities for various subjects.

The language arts site offers antonyms, vowels, spelling high frequency words and commonly misspelt words, and parts of speech.  All of this is in game form and this type of activity is great for our students because they love to play games.  They can have fun playing and learning at the same time.  They will build on their skills and they will also be motivated and engaged in their learning.

The geography site helps the students learn about map interpretation, timelines and using a map.

The games on this website will help improve the students test scores as well as have them produce quicker math answers.  There timed test scores will improve because the activity is timed and they can work on improving the number correct in less time.
Check this site out.  I left the link for you to try it out.
These games can also be played on the wii.

BP4- WEB 2.0 Guru

http://www.storyjumper.com/book/docreate/-1

This tool on Web 2.0 Guru would be very useful in the classroom.  The students will be able to create and publish their own stories.  The students can feel like real authors.  The teachers can use this tool to teach story writing.  They teach about characters, setting, plot.  They can illustrate their own book to demonstrate how to use these things in their writing. You can make a class book of stories or even use it as a class project on something. This is just a snap shot of what you can do with this tool. You log on and press create your own book and it allows you to import pictures, scenery, text , etc.  It is wonderful.

Welcome to my blog page.  This is my four month as a Full Sail University student.  I am an international student.  I am from Bermuda.  It has been a little lonely out here as I am the only Bermudian enrolled and when I have questions I have no where to turn.  I am enjoying the courses thus far.  I have learned a lot and I look forward to learn more.I am a grade 1 teacher at an elementary school.  I can't wait to implement the things that I have learned through my tender with Full Sail University.
